Discover the Wonders of Fungi with Bilingual Mycologists
The Mushroom Identification Workshop is a guided three-hour event where participants explore Tucker House Forest with Mycologists, Diane and James, who conduct the session in both English and French. The experience has two parts: a field walk and a pavilion identification session. During the walk, you’ll search for diverse fungi on the forest floor, on logs, and around tree roots. After collecting specimens, the group returns to the pavilion to examine features, compare notes, and discuss habits, habitat, and identification tips.
The workshop is designed for a wide audience: curious beginners who want to learn how to start identifying common forest mushrooms, backyard naturalists who want better skills, and recreational foragers who want to sharpen safety practices and identification confidence. Diane and James emphasize respectful foraging, conservation, and safety: how to collect without harming local fungal communities, how to use field characteristics responsibly, and when to consult more experienced sources.

Explore the Tucker House Forest
The workshop begins with a guided walk through the Tucker House Forest, where you’ll have the chance to collect a variety of mushroom specimens. Diane and James, our knowledgeable bilingual mycologists, will be on hand to share their expertise and help you identify the different species you encounter.
As you meander through the lush greenery, keep your eyes peeled for the diverse array of fungi that call this forest home. From vibrant caps to intricate textures, each mushroom holds a fascinating story waiting to be uncovered.
Identify and Discuss Mushroom Species
After your foraging adventure, you’ll return to the pavilion to dive deeper into the world of fungi. Diane and James will guide you through the process of identifying the mushrooms you’ve collected, sharing their extensive knowledge and answering any questions you may have.
During this interactive session, you’ll learn about the unique characteristics, habitats, and ecological roles of different mushroom species. Prepare to be amazed as you discover the incredible diversity and importance of these remarkable organisms.
